I was trying to go through an old blog on Lumberjocks, and I noticed a few pages were shown as “under construction.” I assumed this was some kind of data loss which happens occasionally. I hate to see all that hard work go to waste, and for selfish reasons I wanted to recover those pages! I have some training in forensics and found much of the lost detail for the few pages I was in search of. I thought this may be something everyone here runs into on occasion and may want to recover the detail, so I figured I’d pass along in hopes that it helps some of you.

You know how they say nothing on the internet disappears? It’s kind of true, and this is a good example. There’s a website called waybackmachine.org/ that archives internet pages over time. You sometimes have to go back awhile to find a working copy of the webpage, but I attached a link to one of the recovered pages I found below. The basics of it are – you go to www.waybackmachine.org, copy and paste the web page you’re trying to view, and it will show you a history of the times the page has been backed up. Go far enough back, and you’ll hopefully find what you’re looking for.

Example: This page is showing as “under construction” currently but I was able to recover the original content.
