I need to build an auxiliary table for my Porter Cable 15” drill press. I want to be able to secure the base for a auxiliary table with bolts that slide through the slots in table. What kind of bolt would have a head large enough to catch the sides of the slots to keep it from turning with the nut which would be in the countersunk holes on top base. This is the way Id really like to mount it since I don’t want to drill holes through the original table.

I don’t know what size the slots are but, there are several options. Carriage bolts have a square section below the head that would need to be the same size as the small part of the slot. If you have 1/2” slots, get a 1/2” carriage bolt. There are also closet bolts and curved head bolts in smaller sizes that may work to grab in the wider portion of the slot. If nothing else, you can get a carriage bolt or flanged-head bolt that’s bigger than the wider portion of the slot and grind flats on 2 sides. There are several options. Measure your slots and take the measurements to the hardware store and you’ll find something that will work. Or, if you want, post the measurements here and I’ll throw out some specific suggestions.

I have the same press and I made a top plate with countersunk holes to bolt the top to some T-nuts that I purchased from McMaster car that fit the slots in the table. I also did a clamp style that encased the table and then used the red toggle clamps to hold to securely.

Thanks. I just got back from Lowes with some T-nuts which I’ll mount in small strips of oak in the slot. That should work.
