Topic tags/keywords: white oak table outdoor question

I have a client interested in making a table to be left outdoors out of very old barn siding oak. The wood is in good condition and straight. My question is: how will it fair in the open elements? Should I use water seal?

The main reason that barn siding is usually in good condition is it is mounted verticallly. Because a table will be saturated with water from time to time a distressed but water resistant finish is a very good idea.

I agree with Nathan. I think I would consider a poor able finish but I don’t know how your client would feel about a glossy top.
