Topic tags/keywords: question bandsaw milling scrollworking

There is a 14in Jet JWB 140S bandsaw on craigslist right now going for $345. It is the older blue model and looks like there is a little blt of rust on the table. Looks from the pics that there is a movable base but not fence and does’t say the hp. Is that a resonable price? thanks

You’d really have to see it and test it, but I think thats a little high. It has a 1hp motor. Mine is the blue one and its 24 yrs old. I’ve tuned it put a riser block on it and added carter guides. Oh, I also got a deal on a new Powermatic 1 1/2hp motor and installed that. I also added a blade detensioner lever. So its a good saw that can be made better.
Sorry, the pic is sideways. If you can get him down to $250 or $275 that would be good.

Thanks for the help- the listing said “Firm,” so he probably won’t go down much. Thanks for the quick answer though.

Looks exactly like my old 30yr old Reliant Model mines a 16” with a 1.5 horse motor.

I have the same saw- 1hp, 14”, old Jet blue color with the same Kreg rail as woodchuck. I bought it used for $350 without the fence. Used bandsaws don’t come up often here. I’m very happy with the machine and it functions like new.

In my area, Los Angeles, some dealer is buying
up every bargain band saw he can find and
listing them on Craigslist. Time was, I would
tell you to pay less, but from prices in my
area I see, I would call $345 fair for a JET.

That wouldn’t last long in my area at that price, either. And when I say not long, I mean an hour or two, max.

While it’s nice to talk about getting someone down on price, that’s only possible in the right market or situation. Considering a new 14in bandsaw of any quality is going to be $600+, I don’t find $345 to be unreasonable.

I would love to get that saw, or a similar Delta, for under $400.

Earlier this afternoon, I looked at one (Delta) on Craigslist here that is priced at $700. I find that to be just a bit crazy – but totally typical pricing logic in this Houston area.

Too high for a blue one, especially one not in pristine condition. Keep in mind Jet like most of the brands that have always been Asian importers the quality has gone UP over the years vs down like the Delta/Powermatic which used to build machines in the US.
