Looking at getting a drum sander. I like the 24” dual drum will fit my needs. I am trying to decide between the 2. Leaning towards the Delta at the moment. I like that it has a 12” thickness capacity. It has a 3hp motor vs the grizzly’s 5hp. Both are priced about the same. Any feedback?

Reviews seem a little sketchy on Delta, not sure what that really means though. I have been looking at my options here, and struggling with the choices myself. Although I will likely settle on a single drum unit.

What do you think of the delta? I was looking at the supermax 25-50. It seems kind of under powered with the 1.75hp motor.

I looked at all those and ended up with a SuperMax and love it.

Which supermax did you get? What kind of stuff do you sand with it?

I am leaning towards the SuperMax 25-50 too. I wish I could catch that Powermatic 2244 on sale. I know Jet will be running their 10% sale in the next couple of days. They have several models as well. The 12” capacity of the Delta seems nice. But in the dual drum sanders, since they are not cantilevered designs, you are truly limited to that space between. I am not actually sure on the value of being able to flip the work piece and run the other side through. The way the sandpaper attaches to the Grizzly seems a bit odd, taping it in place. The Jet models look like they require a tool, and the tops look a bit flimsy. The SuperMax seem to be pretty well liked, and switching the paper looks easy. All I have done is just look thru the web while trying to assess which one might make sense and fit the budget. Never actually seen or used any of them, so take it for what it is worth….very little.

When you are trying to decide between 2 sanders and this pops up on craigslist. I had to drive 3 hours to get it but I save a lot of money. :) I need to wire a plug for it and start making sawdust.
