I read a topic on here not too long ago, that said something about using Penetrol as a rust inhibitor. Does this work? Is it clear coat, or would it mess up things like T Squares? Can you use it on machine tops? I want a way to inhibit rust on my BS and my Planer, since its a pain to worry about rust….

I just went down to the shop, only to find painted metal rusted! I think someone has been using my clamps outdoors!:( Chisels rusted, so I took off most of the flash rust with WD and a Paper Towel. I then sprayed them with rust converter… only to read afterwards “Do not use on things that can reach temps of upwards of 200o…” Opps…

Is “Someone” still in the land of living!

I don’t know the qualities of Penetrol, but I have a fairly damp shop. I use both Slip-it and paste wax on my cast iron tops. I have found this a pretty good combo. First I polish on a coat of Slip-it. When this is dry I add a coat of paste wax. Its seems to inhibit rust pretty well, but it also creates a very slick surface. My jointer has glide like an air hockey table after this treatment. Some of the older wisdom claims good things for powdered chalk. Its supposed to provide decent glide, but I don’t know if it inhibits rust. Hope this helps.
