I am looking to get a jointer. I saw on craigslist a grizzly 1018 8” jointer with a movable base. It was described to be in very good condition and 10 years old. They are asking $800 OBO. Is that a reasonable asking price? It seemed a bit high to me.

Way too high. Assuming it’s a standard cutterhead.

You can get a brand new one delivered for 895$. 600$ max.

I agree. If it has a helix head on it I think it’s worth it but otherwise, no.

That is what I thought. I might offer him $500. Thanks.

Well…..I tried to deal with him but the lowest he would go is $750. I guess he couldn’t let go.

895 with free us shipping. Maybe for a DJ20. Not for a used grizzly.

He’s smoking something….he probably paid around $800 new with shipping and a warranty. $400-$500 would be the going rate for those.

The price for the Grizzly jointer never came down so I have moved on. I have come across a Delta 37-380 8” jointer for sale for $500. Attached is a picture of it. Do those jointers have a good history? Assuming everything is good, is $500 a fair price?

I remember specifically looking at the 1018 when they were clearing them out new for $595 plus shipping, $300 is the most it’s worth. $500 seems about right for a decent Delta (great deal if it were a DJ-20) but I’d still shoot for $400, it’s free to ask and a fistful of cash coupled with the ability to make it go away immediately can sway some folks into making a deal quicker.

an 8” jointer for 400-500 with decent shape is a fair price. Generally there is not a lot to be an issue other than the bearings and those can be dealt with pretty easy. I’d get it.
