Good afternoon fellow LJ’s. I am happy to announce that we have been granted a booth at the Woodworking Show scheduled for January 14-16, 2011 in West Springfield, Mass. This was initiated by Len (Dusty256) who was kind enough to start discussions with the show promoters at last year’s event. Len and I will be coordinating our participation in the 2011 show. We will have a booth and, obviously, we will need people to staff it. We are also required to present 3 short (15-20 minute) sessions each day. That means we’ll need volunteers that would be willing to put on a demo. Sessions can be on pretty much any topic the presenter wants and we can repeat sessions. If you are willing to help staff the booth and/or conduct a session, please let me know ASAP and make sure you tell me which day(s)/hours you can work. Hours of the show will be Fri 12-6, Sat 10-6 and Sun 10-4. We’ll need to get there a couple of hours early on Friday to get set up and stay an hour or so Sunday to break down. We will receive plenty of passes to the show, so if you want to work on Friday and attend the show on Saturday, you’ll be able to do so for free. I’ve been told that some of our members had a booth at a show in Sacramento and it was quite successful. Let’s show the promoters that we in the Northeast can carry our weight!!

Hmmm…No one yet. We may have a problem. We need 2-3 people to staff the booth each day.

I will attend the Springfield show, but work commits mean that, I don’t know which day or what time. Once my work situations clear up I will let you guys know if I can help. I wouldn’t know about any presentations but I could maybe staff it.

Hi Dave …...I will be available for Saturday and Sunday , but having to work on Friday will be my only question at this time .
Are the promoters still going to allow us to display and possibly sell some of our goodies there while staffing the tables ?

Thanks for the feedback. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will work. It seems like we have quite a few that want to attend, but we’ll need 2-3 people per day. Right now, I can do Friday and Saturday and it looks like Len can do Saturday and Sunday. That means we need a couple more for Friday and Sunday and 1 more for Saturday. We can probably skate by with 2 per day, but 3 would allow room for niceties like lunch, bathroom breaks, etc. We also need folks that can do the presentations. Trust me when I tell you we don’t want me doing 3 shows a day on how to tune a plane, especially when there will probably be someone else doing that. Martin has offered to send us 500 logo pencils for giveaways and he’s trying to track down the LJ banner.

Len, first I want to say how much I love your signature. I used to tell my parents that all the time :)) Second, we can sell things that are hand made and not “commercially available”. So, if you have turned bowls or something like that we can sell them. I’ll re-read the “rules” to make absolutely sure, but I’m pretty confident.

Okay, I re-read the agreement and it states that we cannot sell “commercial products” but that we can sell handmade items. Anyone wishing to sell stuff must provide their tax Id at least 2 days prior to the show.

If you have a computer available, one thing that might be nice would be a slide show of some of the best projects of Lmberjocks. a laptop with projector would be fantastic, or at least a large monitor.

Fred- I agree that would be a great idea. I could even get my wife to put a real nice Powerpoint presentation on there for us, but I don’t have a laptop.

Len/Darryl- the business card idea is a great one. I would think that as long as you weren’t actually collecting money at the show, you could certainly “showcase” your stuff and if people call/email you later and ask for one (or 5) it shouldn’t be a problem. If you like, I can call and verify. Let me know.

Dave,
the idea of showcasing would be nice…
I have a netbook I could bring to run a powerpoint presentation if needed.
