The latest issue of Woodcraft Magazine has an article on making one of these, maybe there are some tips there.

I think they sell the magazine at Lowes and Home Depot. Probably at larger book/magazine stores, too. You might also check their web site for information. http://www.woodcraftmagazine.com/

I apologize- It was the August/September issue that had the long bow article. You may still be able to get it at a news stand, however

there is some books about it
I think the names of them is
bowmaking and longbows
you can borrow them on the library

and you can by the strips of wood you need to make one
the only tool you need beside some clamps and glue is a spokeshave and a saw+ a knife maybee
there is spokeshaves out there that is speciel designet for bowmaking
becourse they take wiskerthin shavings and is made of wood but a normal spokeshave shuold do it

but google bowmaking and longbow then you will have a lot of sites to learn from

A hundred years ago, while in the Boy Scouts, I made a long bow as required for the merit badge. Must have been about 1956-7. I don’t know about now. The long bow I made is just over 80” long and pulls today at about 45#. It is 1 3/4” in diameter at the grip, and weighs 2# 7oz. I am not acurate with it due to lack of practice. It is a copy of the English yoeman type bow of the type as seen in the movie “Braveheart”. It was not meant to hunt with, but was used as a part of a multiple launch volley.

I have also thought of making my own Longbow, it is on my “things to do one day” list.

Do an internet search and you will find a forum ,similar to this one, just about longbow making. I learned from there and a few links how to make one and was sucessfull in making two longbows and one crossbow. Great fun!

If you go to the internet and type in how to make a long bow there is all kinds of info. I looked at Wicked How-To’s.com but there are many others giving step by step information. Have fun! I have been an archer for 51 years. Shot recurves that whole time except for the last 3 years. Had to go to a compound because I could not hold the heavier poundage bows I used to shoot. Happy Hunting if you are a hunter. Season opens this Friday!

God Bless
