I picked up this beauty yesterday, and I’m trying to decide what it is (species) and what to do with it. The ball itself is about 24”tall. I am SO tempted to cut it open to see the treasure inside and go from there, but it’s so stinking cool just like it sits. I was thinking about squaring the bottom really well (it’s almost flat already) and designing a top to attach to the vertical limb and making a side table out of it. It’s been suggested it might be worth some good $ to sell it as is.

So ‘Jocks. What are your thoughts?

I don’t know why but when I read this title I thought of country and western songs and their endless singing of the burl that got away. I’d wait until the right project came along and then cut into the burl and make something fantastic.

Looks like crepe myrtle to me … that burl should look awesome!

the problem is that I’m not a carver or turner. I make tables, counters, slabs of stuff. The resulting pieces out of this would be pretty small for me to do what I normally do. That’s why I thought maybe sell it as is to someone that would make best use of it.

That makes a lot of sense, I hope you get a good price for it and that it sells quickly for you.
