wife and i are almost to retirement age, currently doing a remodel to our house and have discovered we really enjoy it, We are currently in a research phase of converting a one car garage into a place to make a small wood shop.
im not trying to rehash or start the shopsmith vs separate debate. we realize the pro/cons of each. and are discussing that as well
but what we are looking for if there is anyone in n central or ne oklahoma that is actively using a shopsmith in a smaller shop that wouldnt mind a cpl old ppl checking out the shop and asking questions.
and if there is a gent names mudflap around "we were sent your way on another forum" please let me know
Hi, Troy and Andrea! Welcome to LumberJocks and the world of woodworking! I am the Candy in 'Mudflap and Candy'. We'd be happy to meet and discuss ShopSmiths, unfortunately, ours is not functional, at the moment. Ask us anything. We are happy to help/enable!
PS: stop calling yourselves 'old'! You're younger than us and we ain't old…well, Mudflap is, but I'm not LOL! You need 5 posts before you can PM so post away! Come on over to the link AJ (diverlloyd) posted above!
Welcome new friends. I mostly hang out at Stumpy-Nubbs ( the asylum) while Candy is all over the globe. You are going to find slew of new friends there. So again, welcome.
many thanks to everyone for the hospitality, im sure you will be reading more from us , as we have tons to learn,
and we have alot of reading and researching to do.
Candy would you and mudflap care to meet for coffee at the big cabin truck stop some time ??
We are hoping to make OKC this weekend they are having a mark 7 demo this weekend, then there is one in tulsa next month.
we also discovered that grizzly has a big place in springfield, so thats a day trip with a lamberts stop.
thanks again all and looking foward to the journey
Troy & Andrea
We almost always stop there to eat on the way to Tulsa! We would be glad to meet you all there. We made a day trip to the Grizzly place in Springfield not too long ago. The place is huge. Wear your walking shoes. AND it is right next door to an antique mall! The rust hunt is on!
Ive heard of Lambert's (Home of the throwed roll). We've not eaten there. Looking forward to meeting!
Troy, glad you found this site. Welcome. Hope you folks can get together with Jim and Candy.
And, the machines in Tulsa are a great buy. Hope you get can get it the whole shebang.
if you all ever get close to springfield, Lambert's is worth the trip, their chicken fry will equal or outdo Clanton's and yeah that a big claim, but they are awesome place to eat, not fancy just real good. only con to lambert's is they are always busy and normally there is a wait.
and we look forward to meeting you all, i hope your SS can be repaired pretty quickly,
Gene: thanks for everything, and as the son of a veteran, the father of a veteran, and i veteran myself the words in your sig ring true
Candy:
yeah andrea used to live in vinta 15 year ago and actually has worked at both big cabin truck stop and clantons, she has alot of family up thru claremore winnganon and such, we are up that way one or twice a month. We have approx 5 years and then hope to retire and that area and NW Arkansas is where we hope to spend our final days at. she still has friends in vinita we go see. i love the area, but there are a cpl spots in Ark that have taken my breath away. but i must confess my fav brother in law is between claremore and pryor.
Hahaha! I will!
Tough question. ShopSmith was a dream (of our younger years) that was forgotten until a co-worker said he had two and would give us one to make room in his garage shop. By that time we had most of the separate machines. If space were a concern, I think we would lean more toward the SS.
