Thought I was getting a good deal at the Woodworking Show on discs for my random orbit sander. For some reason, I thought I needed 8 holes, or at least, figured 8 would work out.

Okay, I was tired. And I could have asked what Porter Cable uses. Oh well.

The 8 doesn’t really work on my 5 hole P.C.. And it was a pretty big package, over $20 bucks worth. And it is open now. And the Woodworking Show has left town.

Thinking about trying to make a punch to alter the discs. Also thinking about a new random orbit sander- mine has puked several times, but I’ve been able to resurrect it.

Thoughts? Ideas? humorous responses appreciated too!

I replaced my aging PC with a Makita BO5041. It has 8 holes and really performs nicely.

Something to be said for having 100 grit on one sander, 180 on the other. Wouldn’t have to change paper so often.

Send me a PM, I will take them off your hands for what you have in them and shipping.

Modify them, or send them to woodbutcher. I like the idea of a new sander as well.

New sander is a great idea.

1. Clamp them between two pieces of wood and drill new holes through the whole pack.
2. Use them as regular sandpaper on a wooden or rubber sanding block . It is way much better than the paper sheets.

Time for a new sander anyway. Thanks for all the suggestions! But I still have a few sheets of the old stuff to use up, and the old P.C. has paid for itself many times over.

Dan, I don’t know if your P.C is as old as my ancient model 333, but when I replaced it with a Makita BO5041 I was blown away by the difference in performance. Even just using the little dust collector bag on it (I hate trying to manage a hose while I do finish work), it is close to dust free. That little bag fills up quickly.

Another thing I did that was a game changer was switching to Mirka Abranet disks. Those things last forever and leave a perfect finish. My local woodworking supply had a 25% off sale on boxes of 50 when you bought 5. I did a mix of grits, and with 50/box, it’s a several year supply.

Just replace your sanding pad with a Black and Decker / DeWalt (?) sanding pad. The B&D pad has 8 holes and fits the PC. That’s what I did awhile back.

Use them as long lasting reusable toilet paper! exfoliation at its best, it would be pretty funny to have a “guys night” and the only paper in the loo is sandpaper”.
