We are using 2×6x12 pt lumber for floor decking. The deck is approx. 8×60 feet long. The deck I put on my house a couple years ago I didnt finish.. but im building a deck for my daughters and they have log siding with “Cabots cordovan brown” stain color. Since the floor decking will have walking traffic, is it smart to stain? I assume the stain will wear off in the standard path from stairs to front door. if stain is common, please recommend what I can put on top of the cabots stain to protect the floor decking. Or if someone has another method/product instead of cabots

Thanks for the help!

Take a look at Sikkins. Good stuff and they have a wide range of browns.
We put it on our redwood deck and reapplied in two years. That application has lasted 5 years. Seems to be highly UV resistant, too.

You should b fine as long as you use quality stain and multiple coats. I’ve used the cheap stuff and it does not last. Visit ur local mom an pop shop. I personally don’t trust walmarts paints or stains. ACE hardware seems to be consistently good (at least for me).

if i stain it w/ the “Cabots cordovan brown”, is there something clear that i can put on top of it for additional durability? the cabots is whats on the logs now, i would want to match the decking to the logs

i read on the “sikkins”, its sold at home depot. it said “translucent finish”. i assume this would go over the cabots stain? i know the girls dont want a glossy finish, they would like a flat finish, hopefully thats available

thanks

Sikkins has a less than semi gloss look at first. Not matte but not terribly shiny, either.
No matter what you protective coat you put over a stain, it’s going to alter the color, somewhat. So why not take a look at a Sikkins color chart to see if one is close to Cabot’s. Save a step.

Whatever stain u choose just get a good quality stain and do multiple coats and restrain every year for several years. I’ve never personally used a sealer If you hav a sherwin williams around ur area u should visit it
