Anyone have any thoughts as to what kind of wood this is? The pics are from a table a woman has, she wants a bench made but I’m not sure what kind of wood it is to either find the same or not sure what a good alternative would be to make a bench top(she wants metal legs) out of. These are pics she sent, haven’t seen it in person.

It looks very much like walnut. It could be pecan or hickory but I am more leaning toward walnut.

I think it looks too reddish brown to be walnut, have never used pecan to know what it looks like.

go look at it. nobody can tell from those pictures. Can you identify it yourself if you look at it?

Not to be a Richard here but I’m pretty sure if he knew what it was, the title wouldn’t be “Wood ID help” there sawdust.

Hickory was my first thought.

Bingo haha. It does kind of look like hickory from pics I’ve seen online, but it’s a lot darker than the hickory I’ve worked with. May have to go to the lumberyard and see if they have any and what there’s looks like.

If it’s an imported table….It’s more than likely Acacia of some description. Good luck figuring out exactly which type though, there is over 900 species.

Another vote for hickory. At work we have a sawmill and the hundreds of hickory slabs we’ve cut look exactly like this.
