Today I wanted to revisit a plan I had downloaded a few years ago. Went to the Wood Magazine site and found I would need to download an application to convert “Docs to PDFs.” I soon received a warning from Apple about this app, So I didn’t complete the install. Although I didn’t complete the install I noticed my browser had changed from Safari to Bing. I deleted the app (twice) and then ran a MalWareBytes scan only to find a number of other bad actors on my computer. I got rid of all that garbage. So much for FREE woodworking plans.

I think your problem is Apple software and not Wood magazine files.

Interesting. Safari is a browser; Bing is a search engine. I suspect you got one of those packages that switches your search engine, and probably added a few items to your toolbar so they can monitor your shopping and search activities and sell the data they collect. It’s all pretty easy to remove. If you go to Safari’s preferences, and choose Extensions, you can disable and/or uninstall any extensions you don’t recognize.

This has nothing to do with Apple software. If I were you, I’d send a nasty email to Wood Magazine and give it to them for allowing such garbage to be downloadable from their site.

No, it wasn’t from Apple. My search engine had been Google but it was switched to Bing. Doubt Wood Magazine would care what one person thought. Just wanted to get the word out about it. FREE! nuff said-

I have downloaded many free plans from Wood and several other magazines. I have never had any trouble with any of them. All the downloads I have done were .pdf files. I didn’t have to convert anything. Do you have some way of identifying the file so that I can find it? I am very curious.

It’s the file or more likely the reader if you had to download one. These Safari browser changers are pretty common now. Usually it changes it to Yahoo. Just an annoyance but a pain just the same. Thank goodness for malwarebytes.

Don’t think it was specific to a plan. Not sure which site I went to to look at the Wood Magazine plan, but the Free Download was called “Docs to PDFs.” I just searched free plans Wood Magazine and that site has a free download called “Easy PDF Combine.” I’ll bet you’d get a similar result. I’m staying away.

Any free program that does what a $400 one does is going to come with some BS in it.
