Just purchased a Delta 14-651 Mortiser from a Gentleman here in the DFW area. A little gloat time, I paid $100.00 for it.
Runs fine but it was a little dirty and a little surface rust.
It will need new chisels and bits. A chuck key/tool, and I’ll paint it even though it does look fine. If I’m going to all this work to clean it up Etc. I figure I’ll paint it as well. I’ll use Rustoleum Smoke Gray paint. Another forum mentioned that it is an extremely close match. If I’m not happy with the color, another forum has the formula for the delta paint. I’ll order a pint of that and spray it.
I’m cleaning up the dovetail ways, Use a diamond sharpener to smooth the ways out as well as the brass guide.

So here are the questions.

What does everyone use to lubricate the ways on the tool.
I have heard the following.

Way oil, but it attracts dust.
Paste wax.
Lithium grease, concerned with dust again.
Dry Lube
Ceramic Wax Lube

Any recommendations for the ways?

Gears and teeth
I was going to use past wax. Or the Dry Lube/Ceramic Wax Lube.
Again any recommendations?

Last item. Chisels and bits. I have a set from Woodcraft, they seem OK. What does everyone recommend for the unit.
From what I understand any set made for the Jet unit will fit the Delta unit, is this so?

Let me add another question.
The owner could not find the Riser block. I can either purchase one or make one. But I have a question on it’s use.
I have the manual but when installing, it does not mention which hole the fence rack goes into. Since the gear that moves the fence is installed in the base of the vertical pole. Do you install the rack in the lower hole on the base of the riser block and not have the gear work, or do you install it in the original hole and use the gear with the fence elevated? Doesn’t seem to make sense. And of course the manual is not very complete.
