Topic tags/keywords: panel router bit raising

Hi all. I want to buy a medium panel raising bit (bevel). I’m considering the Whiteside 5952 and the Freud 99-511.
Does anyone have an opinion about this.? Is there a better choice than the aforementioned two?

I have the Whiteside, great bits.

You can’t go wrong with either brand. It really comes down to the profile you want.

Does the Freud Quadracut design offer any advantages?

Several of my bits have that quadra cut design. Not sure if that specifically makes the difference, but they sure do cut cleanly. When quadra cut is an option, I go for it. Maybe I’m just a sucker for marketing hype…lol

Here’s one review that said the end grain performance was far superior. And another that’s positive, but a bit subjective.

The quadra cut doubles the knife marks per inch in the areas that it covers (2 of the cutters only handle the difficult areas). The shear design on the 2nd set of cutters reduces tearout and “fuzzies”. I use Whiteside router bits pretty much exclusively unless Freud makes a quadra cut in the same profile. I have not used any of their panel raising bits since I do that on a shaper.

I really like the Quadra Cut from Freud. They cut very cleanly.
