To anyone who has advice:

I am looking for leads/advice regarding the best route to take in finding an entry level position making tables, chairs or picture frames.
I have no formal skills in woodworking. Looking for a coop to join or group that may beneficial for others learning the trade.
Any leads would be helpful and much appreciated!

Sincerely,

Lisa

Every city is different Lisa, I don’t know of any in the Louisville, Ky area. You need to post an area where you live or want to move to, and see what info can be offered from the members in that area.

You may want to check out a local ‘maker space’ to see if you could try your hand at building a chair there.

Apprenticing is an alternative. I agree with papadan concerning location.

You may also look for colleges that offer programs where you work for your tuition. Bera college comes to mind, you could take woodworking courses from the school of Technology and Applied Design while also receiving hands-on experience working in the colleges maintenance department.

Thank you for all replies of advice. I live in SLC Utah and have found a coop for reclaimed wood artisans. I plan on attending a few meetings there and begin networking. I am also interested in schooling as well. Cheers to you all!
