I know this has been asked before. But after reading as much as I could find, I still can’t decide.
My wife has asked that I make two, matching chest’s of drawers for our bedroom. Naturally, I said “I can do that”. I am not so worried about the doing as I am about how to do it. Meaning, which method is better, frame and Panel, Solid Wood, or some flavor of Laminate, ie mdf or plywood.
Some of the folks I have talked to swear that laminated mdf is strong and stable, though heavy. I know the furniture pieces I have looked at are all mdf. However, I question the strength issue. I have thrown away lots of cheep particle board furniture after moving them once or twice because they just fall apart.
I love the thought of Solid wood. Cost is a factor though. I also worry about expansion / contraction.
Frame and Panel is intriguing to me. Light, stable, attractive. What about strength?
Love to get your opinions. Share pictures of projects if you have them.
