Topic tags/keywords: jointer planer power tools tip trick plane

Hey guys, I’m new to the woodworking world, and already built a 7 FT trestle table with 4×4s and 2×12s… though it was a bit twisted and uneven due to not having a planer and jointer.. my question is, what should I do to support the 8’ boards that I want to send through the jointer and planer? I don’t have a big budget to get a jointer and planer, any suggestions? I have about 5-600$ and would like to keep it in the 500$ range. Appreciate any advice.

You can build a sled for your planer. For both the jointer and planer, you’ll need in feed and out feed support. You’ll also need a lot of room fore and aft of both machines for such long boards :)

Planer sled

Edit: Guess I should have read your post more carefully. No jointer or planer. Well maybe a visit to a local shop to see if they’d do it for you. You could also use a router to flatten the boards. That too will requite a jig.

You are going to have to explain what it is you are trying to do a little better… you want to know what is needed to send long boards through a jointer and planer, but you don’t have a jointer or planer?

Cheers,
Brad
