Hellooooo,…Fellow LJ’s! I am (much like scrollgirl) waiting with much anticipation for the beginning of fall. With it brings the colors of the season, cooler weather which is greatly appreciated (especially here in Texas!) and most importantly,…my annual hunting/camping trip that I look forward to from the drive home till the day I can go again.
When I get to go, I go for 9 days (maybe 10 this year). We start planning and counting down the days at about 200 days till. As of today, there is ONLY 60 days left! I always seem to get into a really good mood the closer it comes to that day. Although there is a lot of work and planning that goes into this trip, I enjoy EVERY minute of it. I guess you could say I am like a kid waiting on Christmas. It is all too apparent to everyone that knows me that I enjoy this annual excursion. It allows me to mentally reset all aspects of my life and build up a buffer to the “ka-ka” of the daily grind. I grow a beard, eat “unhealthy” food, scratch where it itches, curse, spit and drink as I see fit. If I want to get up and go hunting at 5 A.M., I do. If I want a Spam sandwich at 10 P.M., I eat one! I actually have a recliner that is dedicated to the deer camp outing. It is in storage all year except for that period of time. When I first brought it out there, the guys ragged me for it saying I was “a soft girly man”. By the time the cold night air and the tired feeling from the daily hunt hit them, they were asking if they could use it for a while.
There is nothing like sitting around a crackling camp fire on a cool fall night in my recliner with a full belly and a cold beer, staring up at the night sky. I lay there counting my blessings and realize how lucky I am to have the life I live. *HOW COULD ANYBODY NOT LOOK FORWARD TO THAT?
