I have an old Ryobi scrollsaw, and it has done an ok job on what I needed it for. I’m planning to upgrade to something better, in the Dewalt/Delta cost range. What do you suggest, and why?

Thanks,

Kirk

I just upgraded from similar saw, a craftsman, to the Dewalt. If you get the Dewalt you will be very happy. It hardly vibrated at all even without being bolted down, and the 20 inch depth is a big plus.

Look for a DeWalt 788 Type 1 on CraigsList, local ads, etc.

The Type 1 saws were manufactured in Canada in the same factory that produced the General Excalibur saws.

The Type 2’s are from Asia, and seem to have problems that the Type 1 doesn’t have.

I bought mine at an estate sale for $250 (a real steal!).
