Topic tags/keywords: jointer

I have a 6” jet jointer and all of a sudden every time I face plane there is a ripple effect in the wood. I suspect it is either in the knives or outfeed table. Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated.

It sounds like the knives are set too high. Reset to the height of the outfeed table.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll give it a shot. Not sure what would have caused it. I haven’t touched the knives

Some tables will allow you to adjust the outfeed and infeed table height. Check it also.

Could also be that one blade is higher that the rest. If you go real slow do the ripples get closer together and farther apart the faster you feed?

They go away when I slow down the feed rate. Maybe I’m just feeding the stock too fast

Scuba, it sounds like we might have the same jointer. The outfeed height on my Jet is adjustable sounds like yours might have slipped.

If they go away depending on your feed rate and you end up with a nice surface, then your tables are ok.

I would check the height of you blades to make sure they are all the same height.

You can do it like this:
