For my foot posts for a twin bed, I’m thinking if having them be about a 3” square post. Should I glue up two boards or make it look nicer with a solid piece and cut it out? -- Mike, Portage, WI |

I would have to say that it depends on what stock you have to work with. I made a bed with a foot board a couple years ago out of birch. I glued three boards together to make the posts roughly 3” square and looks just fine. I would have preferred to have one solid board but I didn’t have one that thick at the time. You can see it in my projects gallery here at LJ. After finishing you really can’t see the joint lines if you glue them up tight. -- Joe Truehart - The Craftsmans Woodshop |
