Karson a while back posted pics of the US from the late 30’s and early 40’s. My dad sent me a link with pics from russia from a century ago. It’s really interesting to see how differently they lived from us. These pics are also held in the Library of Congress. I’m not from Russia, but my family tree dates back to Russia and Poland for the most part (a little bit of Germany and and England as well from my moms side) so it was interesting to see nonetheless.

The color and quality of these photos is aboslutely remarkable. The photographer ”..used a specialized camera to capture three black and white images in fairly quick succession, using red, green and blue filters, allowing them to later be recombined and projected with filtered lanterns to show near true color images. “

It’s also really neat that these photos tie into google maps so you can actually see where they are from. Enjoy.

Eric, these are beautiful old pictures. We owe so much to all of the past artists and photographers who quietly have gone about documenting this world as it slowly changes as each generation gives way for the next.

thanks for much for linking these. I don’t think i’ve ever felt more like i’m actually traveling back in time. the quality of the images is so good, that it gives you such a different feeling than when looking at crusty old b&w or false-color images. wow.

I totally agree Aaron. I don’t think I’ve ever seen pictures this old in color, or of this quality. They are amazing.
