Topic tags/keywords: sharpening jig shapton water stone

This is sort of a product review but being I don’t actually have the product, I thought it was better suited for the forum section.

I have been looking at the Shapton waterstones to replace my stones. I went to the Shapton USA web site but had a few questions about the different stones types, grits, etc. I filled out the form on the contact page with my questions. The form did require a phone number. I expected an email response from the company. The following day I received a call from a representative from the company following up my inquiry. Only later did I discover it was the president of Shapton USA, Harrelson Stanley, that called me. Mr. Stanley was very friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. He spent a good 15 minutes explaining the product and answering all my questions in detail. I got information and recommendations that I would not have expected. This was a wonderful surprise to get this kind of customer service and I will be purchasing the Shaptons stones.

One product he recommended is the Sharp Skate. His company, HMS Enterprises, designed and builds is the Sharp Skate. And it looks like they have recently come out with a redesigned version. It looks pretty ingenious. Does anyone have any experience with the Sharp Skate? It is a little pricey but is it worth replacing my Veritas MKII?

So – an unofficial 5 stars for Shapton’s customer service.

I use shapton stones and have one of Haps sharp skates.
He is a a very teacher and a great guy.
Haven’t seen him years or needed to buy anything it’s good to hear he’s still around.
Here’s a pic of my sharpening station.
