Topic tags/keywords: wtb wood oak milling

I didn’t really see a classified section here. I hope this is okay to post this here.

All of my milling tools are to small to handle a piece of oak at the size I know it. So here is what I am looking to buy…

I need a piece of oak (red) finished milled to 12’ 6” L x 20” D x 3/4” thick. Preferably from MI for me to pick up or be delivered. Just PM me with an estimate for the wood and the milling. Thanks in advance. And again I apologize in advanced if this is against posting rules or the wrong place to post.

I think you will find it difficult to find a single board that long and that wide due to cupping and warping or splitting issues. You would be better off gluing up 4 boards for the width where you can alternate the growth rings.

I agree with you. That would work too. I have trouble (lack of exp) finding boards in Metro area that can be glued up and look like one piece. I had a bad exp with Public lumber in Detroit. So I am reluctant to try them again. IN addition… my jointer is a small bench top jointer, wouldn’t do so well on longer boards. Thanks for the help.

I’m not sure about how far of a drive these places would be for you, but you might want to check out Armstrong Millworks in Highland, MI. or Fingerle Lumber in Ann Arbor. I believe that both places will mill the stock to your needs.
