Topic tags/keywords: jointer question

I am just starting out in woodworking and have been looking all over e-bay and craigslist trying to get some good deals. I came across a Delta 6” Jointer model:37-070 asking $175 with 2 extra blades. I e-mailed him and he said it is about 5-6 years old. Does anyone have this unit or familiar with it. Would it be something good for a beginner or should I hold out?

Also I have a very small shop not even the size of a 1 car garage so I am limited on floor space so I was thinking of building one of those flip top cabinets I have seen a few people have so I could possibly store something else on the other side of it and flip to which one I would need at the time. Would this be an okay Idea for a Jointer or is it something I should attempt for another piece of machinery.

Thanks everyone loving the site and the support I have been getting from everyone already.

is that the benchtop aluminum table model? if so then:

1. I would not recommend this jointer at all – it’s too light, it’s too flimsy, and not very accurate.
2. if you MUST, than I would not pay over ~$100 for a user one.
