Topic tags/keywords: rant

Really is, Seems Cricket no longer runs this site, but a group of select elitist that gang up on anyone the may have a different view than theirs? Blocked for asking a question? They follow people around, making sure no “transgression” against their group goes unanswered.

If you don’t phrase a question in just the “right” submissive tone, suddenly you are the “Bad guy”? and must be hunted down, and blocked. Heck, even the people over on SawMill Creek have better manners than this bunch has.

A group of about 6 is starting to form a tumour that will bring this site down. They restrict any and all that do not agree with their chosen points of view.

No more Mr. Nice Guy…....Flags will fly. More than just a little fed up with this nonsense. Yes I blocked those from that group from ever answering THIS page. I didn’t feel like having their brand of Spam smelling things up, here.

DonW: take a good look at what they have done to you.

A complaint was made about not looking at projects, and saying how nice they are….go back and look. besides, this group never posts a project to comment on. Well, one..maybe. If a project interests me, or I like what the person did, yes I will post on it, and even mark as “favourite”

Even PK has better manners than those people in the Group.

I did take a few days to “cool off”.....not a bloody thing changed here. Is this the way the new year is going to start? Letting a small group decide what is “correct” for this site. And none are named Cricket.

” and I’m…feeling mean…”

I am here almost every day, even today when it is my day off. That being said, I do not step into every disagreement.

We cannot dictate “manners” but we can choose not to respond to those people that are rude. If you have an issue with someone violating our rules, send me a PM with a link to the post so that I can see if there is something I can do to help.

Ive benn ng the trend like this for the past couple years. It has slowly got to where people feel they can bully. Especially on projects that people post. If it isnt what they like they will post a hateful comment instead of constructive criticism.

It’s a woodworking website….too many put too much emphasis on strangers opinions. It doesn’t take too long and you get a feel for the different groups. All sites end up being this way once they reach a certain member size, easy enough to state you opinion in a manner that is not disrespectful and always easy just not to reply if you feel slighted.

I am sure some can pretty much type in some guys responses verbatim on topics. It is funny the disdain some have for new tools, old tools, pallet wood, technology, hand tools, wood sources, opinions that challenge ones beliefs or if one measures the value of the post content based on another metric as the number of projects one posts, post count, number of buddies…. to each his own.

PM is often easier to discuss topics with some guys and avoid the rest.

Well said, Cricket.
If nothing has changed on the site in your absence, maybe it’s not the site. It has been said before “Haters are gonna hate.” You do not have to return the hate or even acknowledge it.

Hey Bandit, pm me the group list. I probably already have them blocked, but would like to check to be sure. I am at 60+ and counting… }8-O

As you know, it took me awhile because I would take the troller’s bait too many times and fire back at them. Now I just bloke them… much better on the health I might add… ;-)

Hey Bandit, what ever happens please do not stop posting your shop work. I for one find it an inspiration.

Among the few websites I have been a member of LJ has been far the most helpful and friendly. I am sorry to hear there are a few that may ruin it.

I shall contemplate the above with a suitable refreshment…

DonK: I have my blogs & projects, and I will still hang out at Stumpy’s place.

Awaiting the OK on this repaired knee, before I get going on 2017’s first project. Might be one of the few things on here that might be fun to do.

Mike: The Group has their own two threads, and only allow those that Kow-Tow to BRK to join in. I sometimes do a drive by through the hand tool one, just when I need a laugh, or two.
Oh, BTW…Still have 1/2 a loaf of Cinnamon Beer Bread….you are welcome to a slice, if you want.

Bandit, I’ve been around here a couple years longer than you but have stayed away more than watching. The attaboy squad has always been here. I have most of them blocked and they have me blocked. I find it amazing how a simple little project can get 2,000 comments of how great it is, and another really great piece gets 2-3 comments only. They will probably bitch about this post, but I don’t care anymore. I deleted my shop and projects from this site a couple years ago and don’t bother posting anything new that I build. I can’t even answer a question without someone saying how wrong I am. LOL Hang in there Bandit, you’re not alone.

Yep, I even have a dedicated “follower” aka Spam. Me-thinks he may be getting a little vacation…..

papadan: feel free to post whatever you want on any of my threads. You can even post a project on THIS thread if you wish.

When someone is factually wrong, it should be corrected for the benefit of everyone. Differing opinions is something entirely different, and shouldn’t be confused with the former.

Cheers,
Brad

I see exactly what you mean Bandit, exactly. And those in question have already been blocked for some time. I hate self-flagellation. Oh and did I mention, I’m now up to 61! Life is good…

I could name a list of those people….but they already know who they are. I do seem to have one devoted follower, that follows me around from thread to thread like a little lost puppy. big deal..

I can keep this thread open to all that have a gripe about trolls and other delightful creatures of the internet. maybe set up a duel? Keyboards at 20 paces! It is the internet, people, not the real world.

so, to all those in the silent majority on this site, who have been brow-beaten down by a select few, this is your chance to speak out. They can’t follow you here. If one does, let me know, and I will block “it”. let’s hear what you want to say. Nobody here will say “You are WRONG” or call you names. This will be a place to air your gripes.

Let’s not forget that everything here is a 2-way street. I try to stay out of most of it and keep my opinions out of the mudslinging, because I don’t want to be a part of it. I’ll just say that from the sidelines neither side is winning, and neither side is innocent.

This (LumberJocks) is a community of woodworkers. Any community is going to have differing opinions, and people who just straight up can’t get along. Great thing about a community is that there are groups within them, so you can just walk away from the ones that don’t fit what you’re looking for. Move on, get over it, do whatever makes you happy.
