Topic tags/keywords: question square

Hey everybody,
So today I found this old try square that obviously lost its handle at one point. Its current handle was a block of maple held on with 3 nails. So I freed the blade of the square from its DIY captor and I am going to make something beautiful with it. I narrowed it down to a Gaboon Ebony handle with brass fittings. I know where to get Ebony and the pins are going to be steel, however, there are many types of brass, from naval brass to architectural brass, and I was wondering which would be best. As for the plate of the square, the numbers are very faint, with some not visible any more and I will probably need a professional’s help to have those re stamped by hand, like it originally was made.
Thanks,
Benjamin

yeah, That’s what I think I am going to do for the pins, but my main concern/question is what type of brass should be used.

That’s the same stuff as gunmetal brass, correct?
