Topic tags/keywords: question exotic wood corners scrap

Hey everybody, as most of you know I mainly just carve bowls. I buy most of my blanks and they usually come square. I cut my circles with the bandsaw and this leaves me with a lot of corners that I don’t throw away, but I don’t know what to do with. I have a lot of exotic wood corners just laying around and the pile is only getting bigger. I have thought about cutting some of them and using them for drawer pulls for bandsaw boxes. What else could they be used for?

Hi Zeke. I use small pieces like that to make wine bottle stoppers, refrigerator magnets , wooden pendants and wooden rings. If it is common wood like oak or pine, I throw the stuff away. But exotic wood or accent wood like walnut, I save the pieces. I just cut some mahogany off a band saw box today and I’ll make a couple refrigerator magnets with it.

I know-

You can post them to me and I will be sure to put them to good use!!!!!!!! :-)

All joking aside, why dont you try gluing them together to form some sort of pattern then give them another go.

Glue up for cutting boards or segmented turnings. Intarsia. Inlay. Cut off the corners and make small turnings, then make miniscule turnings from those corners.
