Recently picked up a Sargent VBM 3418 transitional plane

It’s got some nice redwood inlay along the edges—not sure if that’s factory or custom? Either way, it looks great.

Also, I have no clue on the production dates. According to the Sargent Planes site it was made between 1891 and 1941. Can anyone narrow this down a tad? I’d rather not buy the identification guide.
