Apparently the 3D Warehouse at Trimble Sketchup is about to make some changes. Thing is that from the notice that I get I’m not really sure what they are. Does anyone know?

Are older models going to be inaccessible? or
Are older platforms (SU 8, 2013) not going to have access? or
.... .???

Can we reload older models under new codes to update them?

I’m too old to figure this out on my own. Can anyone shed any light?

Paul, from the warehouse:

Please Note: On January 1, 2017, SketchUp Version 8, and SketchUp Version 2013 file formats will no longer be available for download from 3D Warehouse.”

They have also changed their terms of use, so you will have to go to the site and accept the new terms of use before you can use the models in the 3d Warehouse. That’s all I know, there may be more.

It’s my understanding that if you have uploaded any models in those older formats, you will need to re-save them out in newer formats and re-upload them if you want them to continue to be available.

Hope this helps,
Jerry

Thanks Jerry. That is more or less what I got but it isn’t really that clear. I guess I’ll try downloading my old models and resawing them in my newer version.

I think all they are saying is that Ver 8 models are not going to be available to download from the 3D Warehouse.

Lately I’ve downloaded SU-2017 and it seems to open Ver-8 Models fine. If you reload older models and save them, they will be saved under the version you are using and no longer openable by older versions.

However, if you do as a SAVE AS it gives you an opportunity to save it as an older version.

Hope that answers your concerns.

They aparently want to break all ties with Google. This is their way of FORCING you into Trimble land. Then when they have you all to their own, then they will have more power over their product. I expect there are future plans in place that we won’t like either. Just my 2c.

I have noticed this happening right across the board in cyber land, even free Wikipedia is getting ready to charge a small fee when they no longer get enough free donations. The internet has served its purpose and will be slowly reorientated to suit the elites Agenda.

Because blaming it on subversive activities within broader conspiracy theories is much more entertaining than ‘free enterprise’ and ‘the profit motive.’

Edit: sorry paul. I’m not a player in the sketchup universe.

Well since I would like my models to remain available (and therefore my LJ blogs still useable) I am re-saving them in SU 2015. I’m not deleting the old ones just yet so I will add the new links rather than replace the old ones.
The only really good one I have is my workbench, thanks to Rance, and that link is already updated.
Could someone please check it for me? https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=e17f977a-a292-4d1d-8786-43bf400da0de

Thanks.

Huh. And here I thought is was just the fact that Trimble wanted to actually make money off their product instead of giving away all that work for free…
Lot’s of folks are finally finding out that free content ain’t really free, because it costs them their jobs and livlihoods…

Thanks Lew.

BTW, this is not a social commentary thread, just looking for some information. :-)
