Topic tags/keywords: hand plane plane

Hello all. I have been lurking for some time and thought I should join. I have this old plane that is stamped MADE IN U.S.A the only other mark I can find is the number 3 or the letter s under the handle. The plane is 9.25” long by 2 1/8” wide. It has no lateral adjustment or screws for a frog. Any ideas?

Stanley made. Brand name is Defiance. They also had a special lever cap. handles were a deep red in colour.

Handles were some sort of red wood. It was even red on the inside.

Wasn’t too bad of a plane.

The lateral adjustment on these planes was made by sliding the brass wheel side to side.

There isn’t any “frog” to bolt onto the body. It was cast in place.

Only the Defiance line of handplanes used that style of lever cap.

The one I had was a #4 size. Yours seems to be a #3.

Rather a bare bones affair. There was a later rendition of the Stanley Defiance line…....but they looked more like the 50s Victor line of planes..

Stanley Victor. I think it was a #1204….
