I sold a Generator on EBAY, and its only my second sale. The person paid through paypal, and I have heard horror stories of people having had their money taken back through paypal, and they were unable to get the money or item back.

So I took a chance on this generator since I was unable to sell it through craigslist.

The guy come to pick it up, and when I ask for ID to make sure he is the same person who paid for it, he refused to show me ID, he wouldnt sign any paper work saying that he picked up the item, and so I told him that I need some sellers protection on my end to keep him from disputing the pickup and getting a free item and his money back.

So I finally told him he isnt taking the generator unless he goes onto Ebay, and gives positive feedback and states that he picked up the item.

So 4 days later, I get a message from him on Ebay stating that the item doesn’t work, and blah blah blah,

And he says he is going to dispute it with ebay and paypal.

Wow… talk about fucked up. I guess I need to do cash only from here on out with items.

Has anyone here ever won a dispute? Especially with someone from out of state?

And the generator worked when a Electrician disconnected it. So that we are clear.. maybe he didnt have a electrician install it. Maybe I can get lucky on that side.

Yeah you have to be careful selling on ebay. Got burned just last week. Sold a like new LN saw. Dude came back after 6 days and said he wanted his money back because he just opened the package (delivery confirmation said it was delivered 6 days prior to this) and the saw is kinked. Was not kinked when it left my shop. I think he used the saw and messed it up.

Called ebay and they said there is no proof he did it and if you do not refund his money they will take it out of paypal anyway. The lady on ebay even suggested I make a claim to the Post Office insurance even though I told her it could not have happened during shipping. They have great buyer protection but sometimes the sellers get burned.

Do they have to send the item back?

Yes. They send it back and now I am stuck with a kinked saw and I have to pay the return shipping.

Have your say...
