Bob, Given the looks of some of the tools, I’d check the mechanics (bearings, headstock/tailstock alignment, transmission, etc) of the lathe pretty closely. Some of those tools have been, as they say, rode hard and put up wet.

The current comparable Jet 1236 goes for about $750 new. That is without chucks or turning tools… which can add up to a lot of money very quickly. This old workhorse looks beefier than the newer model. For its age (Jet switched from blue to white a few years ago) I think it looks well used, but not beat up. If it is in good mechanical condition, I would say $450 is a good deal.
