I’m fairly new to LJ and new to woodworking. I’m repairing two broken legs of a small end table. The legs had compeletely broken off. After gluing and pin nailing the legs, there is a small gap in one leg and a larger crevice in the other leg that need to be filled and stained. I’ve uploaded pictures to Picasa and they can be acccessed here:
I have a Wipe On Urethane Gel Stain from General Finishes that is the color I need for the patch and the rest of the table. I’ve really good success with GF’s stains on the projects I’ve done. But I’m not sure if the stain will work on the filled areas.
I’ve read about on LJ about mixing shellac and wood chips, using putty powder that you mix with water, some people use a minwax product. All gets confusing to me.
What is the best way for a “newbie” to fill the crevices and stain the patch so it matches the table?
