Topic tags/keywords: planer delta makita dewalt 18 industrial

I was going to order a benchtop planer from either Makita or Dewalt, but saw this old Delta model show up on Craigslist. Just wondering what you guys think of the Delta 22-210 and if its better than those two benchtop models?

It’s a wedge board, needs belt replacement and has a new set of knives. Attached some pics too. Thanks y’all!

That is the exact same machine (same S/N) that is listed over at the vintage machinery site (found here), and based on the serial number, was built in 1962. It is a beast of a machine, and according to the 1963 Delta catalog, weighs in at just under 1200 pounds. The actual machine is badged as a model 22-100 which is just the machine itself. It’s an 18 inch variable speed planer, and the “all inclusive” catalog number 22-210 indicates that it is a 3hp 240v belt drive model. Comparing it to something like the Dewalt or Makita lunchbox planers is like comparing a Semi truck to a VW bug. At an asking price of $1000, it’s about twice what you would find a new lunchbox planer for, but an order of magnitude more of a machine.

Cheers,
Brad

So it’s probably more machine than I need at the moment but just wanted to get some context. Thanks for the reply Brad!

More machine than you need at the moment? Maybe… but it would probably be the last one you ever needed to buy, unlike one of those lunchbox planers. Depends on what you see in your future…

Cheers,
Brad

PS: I would love to have that machine, even though I already have 3 planers (one a lunchbox type)... mine are all 12-13” machines, so having 18” would be a big step up. Unfortunately, that machine is on the wrong coast. Not many show up around here for some reason.
