Hello all…I hope everyone doing well…I am because..( hehehehe..I MADE A MOUNTAIN of sawdust today…LOL..)I picked up a Sears 2HP planer today from an ad I saw in my local paper and DID I HAVE FUN..!!! Anyway..the point is..I am starting to make shadow boxes for Lemax Halloween Displays and got everything cut to the exact length I needed but I am curious..after struggling trying to hold them togehter to nail them I was having WAY too much trouble. What I am wondering is there a JIG that will hold 2, 45 degree pieces of wood together while I nail them.??Is it possible that I can make one..? I saw reviews about the jig that Rockler makes and I am sure I dont want that one!!Any help wil be….uh..helpful.

Wow – you are opening a can of worms here. Everyone has their favorite way of clamping miters. I use several methods—one easy way is to use tape to hold your joint together while the glue cures. Look at episode 31 on this site http://thewoodwhisperer.com/ – this shows how to do the tape method. The clamps that Bob shows are good to.

All of the woodworkers stores should have corner blocks for holding wood to make and glue up drawers an to make the corners 90 deg.

those clamps are fine or you can make your own out of wood and wrap them in plastic wrap to keep them from sticking.
