Topic tags/keywords: question plane casting

Hey everyone,
So I recently thought that maybe I would do a blog. its going to be a combination of metalworking, woodworking, and some design, I want to make a cast iron plane of my own, make the molds, cast the iron, and form the totes and knobs, I will perhaps be starting this 2 summers from now but in the meantime I do have some questions in terms of logistics. What material are the lever caps made of? How much would I have to account for metal shrinking upon cooling? I know some No. 1 fakers are distinguishable due to the fact that they were cast without shrinkage in mind.
Would love to hear some suggestions and any tips from metalworkers here!

Check out Youtube’s ‘myfordboy’ for some interesting videos on greensand casting.
