Im tryiing to make toy dump truck for the grand kids and the dump mechanism has me symied. I have tried regular hinges you get from the hardwaree store, and then make a larger tailpiece and put a dowel thru it and then making a hole in he bed of the truck and again runnin a dowl thru that. anyway have a good way of making a hinge that lets the truck dump? This is driving me crazy I bet I cut out a 100 truck and dump boxes and still cant get it right it always ends up too tight too loose or just looks stupid. I have searched the net to no avail. Also I dont follow direction too well so be patient with me.

Depends on the scale you’re using. The last one I did I used the hinge used on a toilet seat with a short dowel. I painted the metal black. I thought it looked good. I’ve also epoxied pipe end caps on with smaller dowel.

Look how real trucks have their hinges, it may suggest a solution to you.
