Topic tags/keywords: finishing books

All my prior projects of red oak and alder have been finished with oil stain and polyurethane. I would like to learn other finishes for my next project, a red oak cradle.

I’m looking for some reference books to help me begin a new finishing technique. At this point I’m not really smart enough to ask good questions. After processing a couple of books. I’ll be back with some tough questions.

Check out Charles Neil. He’s on this site. made DVDs that are supposed to be the last word on finishing. They are on my get list one of these days :-)

Woodcraft has a lot of books and DVDs for sale as well as Rockler.

There is all kinds of threads on here about finishing, do a search and read up on them here too.

Woodworkingonline.com has a good video on oils and varnishes. HERE

In addition to Charles Neil’s DVDs that Bob recommended, I would also suggest that you take a look at Bob Flexner's and Jeff Jewitt's books.
