All my prior projects of red oak and alder have been finished with oil stain and polyurethane. I would like to learn other finishes for my next project, a red oak cradle.

I’m looking for some reference books to help me begin a new finishing technique. At this point I’m not really smart enough to ask good questions. After processing a couple of books. I’ll be back with some tough questions.

There is all kinds of threads on here about finishing, do a search and read up on them here too. Woodworkingonline.com has a good video on oils and varnishes.
