The bandsaw is advertised as a 16”. The jointer i have nothing They are both grizzly. They are listed on CL locally, and I’m thinking about calling on them. I just need to know if it’w worth it. I fell like for 200 bucks it’s a good deal if they both run and seem relatively well taken care of. They are listed as 1988 models.

try to get the table for the band saw. Not
much good without it.

$100 not bad for the jointer tho.

Where’s the table for the band saw?

The missing table will probably be a real thorn in your side… unless he has it and the rest of the pieces hanging out in the shop somewhere. Finding a replacement table and all the various bits associated (trunnions, adjustment knobs, etc…) might be a hard find given that it’s a 16” model and not very common. I guess you could always fabricate something that would work at 90 degrees… but something that tilts like the original might be quite a bit of work.

Cheers,
Brad

PS: The missing table is also kind of a red flag… depending on WHY it is missing, there may be other parts that are broken or missing that aren’t obvious in the photo.

I was gifted a older Grizzly Jointer similar to that model and year, the fence would not stay at 90 and had a slight warp. Also the sides would not stay in coplane, overall, it was not worth the effort to fine tune and look for replacement parts. I since donated it to a steel recycling place and purchased hand planes.
Personally, I would pass on the jointer

I would say the jointer, if it’s in good shape is worth 200 by itself. It looks like the g1182 I have. I paid 225 and am very happy. I would buy both and if the saw is not worth fixing up, sell it.

I’d drop $200 for them if he has the table. I’d definitely go $100 for the jointer.

Thanks everyone for the input. I will give it a call tomorrow. I’m not really looking to buy right now, but if the saw has the table, then I might consider it.

I might go for it even if the table is missing, because it’s a 16” saw. If the jointer is worth $100-150, $50-100 for a decent quality 16” bandsaw is totally worth it. The caveat is: are you the type of person who would enjoy fabricating a table/trunnion? If not, don’t bother.

I would see how people who make all-plywood DIY bandsaws constructed their tables, and go from there. Like on woodgears.ca.

I really doubt whether that is a 16” bandsaw. The only 16 incher from Grizzly that I’m aware of was one with a one-piece frame, and one piece door over the wheels. That is clearly a 2 piece frame.

They did make an 18” saw with the 2 part frame. It might be possible that is an 18”. I have the 18”, and it is not a bad saw, though I toy with the idea of swapping it out for a 17” model.

If it is the 18”, it is definitely worth a look, but only if the table is available. Certainly worth the money.

The Grizzly G1538 was a 16” band saw with a two part frame similar to the 14” ones.

I don’t remember ever seeing one of those, and I have been in Bellingham (Grizzly’s home town) even before they started up, in about 1984. But it’s possible my memory is defective. Likely, in fact.
