But I don’t know exactly what I got.

I was in my garage shop trying to clean it back up again after a sanding session, and a neighbor walks up introduces himself. Exchanged a couple of pleasantries and then he asked me if I wanted the vice he had with him. That’s it in the pictures. I know it’s a vice, but other than that I don’t know much about it and Google has not been my friend in this case. It’s a little rusty, but it looks like it will clean up and be quite serviceable.

He explained that a friend of his had given it to him years ago, and he had no use for it. I suggested he might get onto LJ and SOMEone might be able to give him some information about it and maybe he could make a little money. He said he just wanted it gone so I accepted.

It’s 10 inches wide, has cast iron jaws, and from what I can see the only identifying characteristics are maybe the blue color on the bottom (only the bottom because these photos make the top surfaces look blue and they are definitely not blue.), and the number. It looks like it says 1V 265. The first letter might be a lower case letter “l”, but it really looks like the number “1”.

I would appreciate any information about it.

Thanks,

Wayne

I will definitely find a good use for it whatever it is. It’s not like it’s a long-lost Picaso now is it? :-)

I found a similar looking vice on ebay, but it was missing the handle and the front jaw didn’t have the pop-up dog like mine, and it may not have the quick release like mine. There was no price given since it was already sold, but the description said ”... looks like CRAFTSMAN on the front ”. I went back out and looked at mine again, and it might very well be the Craftsman grey color instead of blue. I’ll have to get it outside in the sunshine to make sure, but that might be a couple of days since we have rain or at least cloudy weather predicted for the next few days.
