Topic tags/keywords: scroll saw bandsaw jigsaw

I just saw this video from Rockwell on their new “Bladerunner” (keeping fingers crossed that the video will appear)

It is essentially a handheld jigsaw/reciprocating saw mounted under a table. (I’ve seen a few do-it yourself versions of these before) but it is interesting because it has built in dust collection ports, above the table blade changes, and a pressure foot / guide.

Being a bit of a galoot I know that a bandsaw is usually the saw of choice for galoots because they can pretty much do everything else by hand. It struck me that for any aspiring galoots without room for proper bandsaw might find this a small shop alternative. It doesn’t appear to be a great band saw replacement, or a great scroll saw replacement, but it does offer some interesting alternatives.

The laughable part of the video is where they suggest you can build a deck with it and crosscut long decking lumber. They also suggest it replaces a demolition saw which is a looong stretch (can’t blame them for trying)

Not really sure about the quality of the company’s tools, but the idea I think is clever.

Doesn’t look too promising to me. I think a jigsaw would be more versatile.
