I have a simple pine bookcase from Sweden that has a very natural finish – just a light, clear, slightly glossy topcoat of some kind. It is a bit too light and bright and yellow for the room it is in. And it has been there for 4 years, so it isn’t going to change naturally. I’d like to knock the color back a bit – make it a bit duller, darker, more brown. I don’t have a workshop or even a garage, so I’ll have to do the work in the dining room. Is there a finish product you could recommend?

Sounds like a job for gel stain and perhaps a satin or matte poly topcoat.

Is “from Sweden” the same as from Ikea ?

Close: from The Container Store. Called “Skandia”.
