We are interested in covering our bowling alley lanes with a floor for dancing. Has anyone heard of this or see it done?

I know of no bowling alleys that convert lanes to a dance floor. But temporary hardwood flooring is installed and removed all the time in large arenas. These temporary floors are installed for basketball events. I do not know, but suspect these removable floors are large and heavy, probably requiring equipment that would not fit in a bowling alley. There is probably some hardware in these floors to lock the panels together and allow the flooring to be leveled.

If the typically low ceiling found over the many lanes is high enough to accommodate dancers after a temporary floor is installed, I suspect floor panels could be custom made. These would probably consist of a frame with the finished decking fastened to the frame. They could be small enough to be carried into place and made so that the panels interlock.

If this is a permanent conversion, a flooring contractor could probably make the conversion with few problems, although some light framing or furring could be required.
