Topic tags/keywords: finish coffered white oak

I’m currently making a coffered ceiling for my covered patio deck. It’s all made from QSWO boards and veneer panels. My wife wants to keep the color as light as possible. I’m looking for information on a finish for the wood.
The wood is protected from any direct sunlight and all but blown rain mist. Could LJ members recommend a finish to use that will keep wood light in color. Types and brand names of finishes would be appreciated.

I’m milling my own molding from rough lumber and made my own veneered panels. I’m taking pictures and will post a blog when completed.

I would suggest taking a look at spar varnish. I put this on our exterior pine doors over 20 years ago and I have only needed to refinish them once.

I’ll second the vote for spar varnish. I used it on some white oak that is directly exposed to the sun and rain and it has held up very nicely.
