I have a chance to get an old huge vintage band saw similar to the one pictured. The frame casting has “Cant Bros”, I did a search but couldn’t find anything specifically about the name so I’m curious if anyone’s heard of them and where I can find more info. Are these old saws worth fixing to use or resell?

Few of those really old band saws are going to
be worth your time if you plan to try to resell
it in restored condition.

Hardly any small shop needs such a large band
saw but they can be fun to own and use.

That is the exact same photo that is posted over at the VM site, listed as being made by Cant, Laidlaw and Co. , not Cant Bros. , although the companies appear to be rather intertwined. Nice looking 36” beast for sure.

You might want to contact the person who posted it over there to see if they can give you any further info.

Cheers,
Brad

I am interested in this casting (ie: the frame). Did you purchase it? If not can you forward the info – would be willing to provide a finders fee. This would make a good frame for an english wheel for bodywork. Also the casting is from Canada so should use it somehow.

Thx
