Not sure if this is the right place or not. Forgive me if its not. I am a 49 year old father of two teenage boys. By day, I am a high school teacher. After that, I am a taxi service for my boys. They are very involved in sports and most of my free time is spent getting them there and waiting.

Growing up, I never had an interest in woodworking. Sad because my dad was very good at it. In his earlier days, he built furniture. He slowly moved into woodcarving but occasionally would build a piece of furniture. My dad is going to be 83 next month and has been battling cancer for several years. Because of this, he does not get down to his shop anymore. About a year ago, he told me to come and get the tools. They live 6 hours away at the beach and I never could get it worked out to get down and get everything. Well hurricane Matthew came through and long story short, my dads shop was flooded. His house is on stilts but the wood shop was below at ground level. Two feet of water came through and flooded everything. After they were allowed back on the island, they called me and said I needed to get down there immeDiately. Most everything survived because it was above water level. All the cabinets and workbenches were destroyed. I loaded up most of the tools. He wanted to hang on to a few things.

I am trying to take my one car garage and turn it into a shop. I am taking it slow since I really don’t know what I am doing. Here are a few pics. Some of the bigger tools are still in my shed out back. Radial arm saw, old Craftsman lathe, joint planer and scroll saw are still packed up. The hand tools and the drill press, knife sharpener are in the shop.

Welcome to LumberJocks! Sorry to hear about your dad.

Don’t see any pics…

Welcome to lumberjocks!
I hope you have been instilling an interest in woodworking in your sons. I’m 17 and I started woodworking about two years ago and I love it.
Best wishes,
Benjamin

My 14 year old doesn’t really care but my 13 year old enjoys it. I recently bought a chop saw and he learned how to safely use it today on a little project for his mom.
